My team has given an oral presentation about food wastage and hunger on 22 March,2010.We have prepared the presentation for almost one month and generally I felt that our presentation was satisfactory. We had a good time management and we presented our topic with a clear structure. We made use of many pictures which were more attractive than wordy slides. At the end of the presentation,we showed a short but overwhelming video which emphasized the objective of our presentation.
I was in charge of the last part of the presentation -- solutions to food wastage and world hunger.I talked about six different ways to resolve the problem of food wastage and hunger.I tried my best to explain in detail what these means of solution are with only pictures in my slides.I was also making myself clear by speaking loudly and slowly. There were not many pronounciation mistakes during my presentation. Moreover,I maintained my eye contact with the audience throughout my presentation.
However,I felt that there are still many areas that I need improve on.Although I was having eye contact with the audience, there was still a lack of confidence in my presentation. In addition,my hand gestures were not enough. This actually exposed my lack of confidence.I think I really need to put in effort to practise my hand gestures.Last but not least,I was keeping silent during the Q&A session. This is partly because of lacking in confidence of answering the questions.Besides,I was not very sure of the contents and evidence of our presentation. This is the other factor which prevented me from answering the questions and I think I should make myself fully prepared in the next presentation.
Generally I think my performance in the presentation was satisfactory.I have actually improved from the previous oral presentation.I believe I can do better than this in the next presentation if I work hard on those parts that I was weak in.

Hi Li Kai,
ReplyDeleteI think that you did a good job during your presentation. You did well in engaging your audience with your eye contact, telling the audience that you are acknowledging their presence and hence they will be more attentive to your presentation.
In addition, your pace and volume were good. It gives people the idea that you are confident and know your topic well, and thus they will be more receptive to any ideas that you might have.
I agree with you that you did not talk much during the Q&A session. This is definitely something that almost everyone experiences. I myself also did not speak much during the Q&A session, and it will portray the image that I do not know what I’m presenting. I believe that you could have added on to points that you think your team mates have not made a complete justification. Hence it would definitely require you to be familiar with the content of the presentation.
I hope my comments have been useful to you. Hope you will be able to improve in your future presentations.
Regards,
Ryan
Hi Li Kai,
ReplyDeleteI was very impressed with your appearance during the presentation. You took the effort to wear a blazer, hence it appeared to me more like a professional presentation rather than a CG1413 Project presentation.
However, there is definitely room to improve in future presentations. I feel that you could have been more enthusiastic and confident when you were speaking. To be more precise, I recommend that you try to speak a little louder and emphasize on the key terms rather than presenting in a monotone. On the topic of the lack of participation during the Q&A session, you can prepare the facts and content of your presentation beforehand, and anticipate the type of questions asked. At the end of the day, it all boils down to the preparation work before the actual presentation.
Regarding this post, I feel that you should at least go through it once first before posting as there are some grammatical mistakes at certain parts. Even though this is the second last blog post, I hope that you will persevere on and come up with an excellent final post next week.
All the best!

Hao Tan
Hi Li Kai,
ReplyDeleteIn agreement with Ryan and Hao Tan I also felt that you gave a very good presentation. As a team member from the same team I definitely knew that you tried to give your best. Your physical appearance made our whole presentation look very formal and influential.
Your delivery of speech was very clear. The speed and audibility of your part was also good. You also tried to give appropriate pauses between every important point which thus helped audience comprehend every part.
However, as mentioned in your reflection there were some parts you could work on, in the future like fluency of the speech, firm body gestures etc. Also you should have taken more initiative during Q&A session this would have helped you gain more confident in presenting in the future!
Hope the above suggestions will help!

Ayushi
Hi Likai,
ReplyDeleteAs your previous team mate in oral presentation 1 (OP1), I feel that your presentation skills have improved tremendously. You were much more confident in delivering your speech and your posture was much more natural this time round. In addition, you managed to memorize your script thoroughly and hence managed to avoid a common mistake made by most of us, which was the over reliance on our index cards. Furthermore your attire definitely made the whole presentation much more impressive.
However, even though you were familiar with the script, you did not capitalize on that fact and go one step further to engage your audience, there were times where you seemed to be regurgitating what you memorized and hence lacked the passion and enthusiasm in your tone. In addition, as compared to the rest of your team, you lacked hand gestures as you constantly maintained good posture with your hands behind your back. It is better to strike a balance in both maintaining your posture and using gestures to further illustrate your points. Regarding the Q & A, I am sure you do know your stuff well and I do not feel that it is a big issue since you had 4 group members, if every group member had points to add on after every answer, it would be distracting and domineering to the person who asked. Nonetheless, you should take more initiative in answering questions in the future.
All in all I felt that it was a job well done. Your team left a deep impression in everyone with the dramatic ending and the insightful video. I hope my suggestions and feedback were useful and I look forward to our next presentation together.
Regards,
Jay
Hi Li Kai,
ReplyDeleteBeing your fellow teammate, I feel that you did a very good job during the presentation .You have improved a lot compared to your previous presentation. You were clear and confident and your voice was loud and pitched at the right level for the audience.
It was good that you did not use index cards and knew what you had to say as it helped establish eye contact with the audience. Your attire was very formal and attention seeking. It made the presentation look very professional. I do feel that you can improve on your hand gestures and body language as it portrays your confidence level and familiarization with the content. Hence it is very important that we improve on our non-verbal skills in addition to the verbal skills.
Regarding the Q&A session, I agree that you could have answered a few questions and could have tried to add a few points to what the other team members had to say, since keeping quiet shows your lack of confidence and unfamiliarity with the content. Thus I think we should come forward and answer questions as it will also help us gain confidence for our future endeavors. I really enjoyed working with you on this presentation.

Hi Likai,
ReplyDeleteI can see that there has been tremendous improvement from your previous OP. In fact, I think you are the one with the most improvement in the whole class. I was truly amazed by your professional delivery of the speech. You enunciation was great and the volume was appropriate.
Though your body gestures were good, as Jay mentioned, since you did not use cue cards, they could have been much better. But you hardly stammered and never once stared at blank space. You tried to maintain good eye contact with the audience, though you could have looked at both sides of the room equally.
Besides that, I felt your speech was sincere and had a tinge of seriousness in it. As most of the commenters have mentioned, you could have tried answering the Q&A. Reading up more on the topic we presented would have definitely aided you to answer the Q&As confidently.
Being a fellow teammate, I sensed that you are responsible and you were dedicated towards this project. I really enjoyed working with you and hope to see more presentations from you in the near future.
All the best!
Regards,
Gulabi
